4K monitors offer much higher resolutions than other monitors, even HD ones. 4K refers to the number of pixels across the screen, roughly 4000. There are two types of 4K monitors available - true 4096 x 2160 models aimed at the digital effects and movie editing market and 3840 x 2160 models (often called UHD) aimed more at photographers and general users. Either resolution will give you a crystal clear, very sharp monitor much like a retina screen on an iPhone or iPad. You'll have to make sure your computer and graphics card is up to the task though, and 4K won't suit everyone. It can make text and icons quite small but both Windows and the MaC OS allow scaling of interface elements while keeping the 4K resolution for photos and video.
